Jemal Solo – Solar Doctor Saver

“I’m a local bloke from Mackay, been here for over 25years, my wife and 2 young kids live in Andergrove. I’m in my early 50s years and have over 35 years in the electrical and renewable energy industries.”

“Over the course of the trade I became more interested in Energy Efficiency and Renewable energy, so started to educate myself more broadly in this area especially the technical aspects. Investing more time and resources to do every solar, battery, inverter, wind, energy and micro hydro course available while continuing to install solar and battery storage.”

Like everyone in the early days I made mistakes but always managed to learn a lot from them, making me better at what I do for others.

When I first came to Mackay as a heavy construction Electrician, I already had been lucky enough to work for a company that provided in depth training in, process automation, major industrial site construction, building, high-rise construction and the like.

Transitioning over to mining construction and maintenance, it took a few years to work out that you have more value to the company if you specialise rather than excelling across the board. So I focused on Dragline and Electric Haul truck until I became very capable in this role and in fact was proud to be considered up there with the best in the Australia.

Time passed and things developed to the point, where we decided to branch out on our own and we foundered our own Energy Management Company, helping local companies and individuals save more and use less power and energy by being more energy efficient.

Throughout this journey I became a solar inspector and part of the industry advisory group for the Clean Energy Council.

I started noticing, that there did not seem to be anyone going to bat for the solar owner and I kept hearing similar things from owners, like;

• I am not getting the results I was promised
  The system does not produce as much anymore
• There seems to be something wrong but my installer says everything is OK
• My installer has gone out of business &I have spoken to 3 different solar companies and they all told me something different was wrong with my system
• The products installed are under warranty but the company no longer operates in Oz
• My system is producing less every year
• I was lead to believe my system would do …….. but it does not

Leaving owners feeling abandoned, frustrated and out of pocket with no real idea of where to go and who to talk to about this.

It seems that every second company wanted to sell and install a solar/ wind/ battery system. But there was no one championing the cause of the solar owner.

So I decided to do something different, using my unique skills set to help others in this way.

I started Solar Doctor Saver because energy efficiency and renewable has always interested me, and it is now a passion, so my focus on is to help more people become solar and energy efficient, leading to better outcomes all round..
